Risky Business for Middle School is a unique web-based, social-emotional learning curriculum that is evidence-based, reduces bullying, violence, and sexual harassment by building pro-social behavior in adolescents. The program is designed, produced, implemented and analyzed by D & D Consultants, and includes a separate on-line professional development program for administrators, teachers and parents. Both web programs are secure and confidential.
Risky Business has a number of advantages as a web-based program:
- Large numbers of students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade can be trained on-line at the same time, depending on computer lab availability
- Students completing the empirical scales receive immediate feedback of their risk and resilience factors on how they ‘read’ their peers.
- Adults (administrators, faculty and parents) can be trained in large groups on the web-based program Risky Business for Adults and will receive immediate feedback
on how they perceive their students
- Faculty, after participating in web-based training, will receive the Risky Business Activity Guide which offers a variety of role-plays for teachers to conduct in their classrooms with students throughout the year. Each role play is accompanied with lesson plans that are linked to the State Curriculum Standards, The College Board Curriculum Standards and the Universal Curriculum Standards. The role plays are designed to be fun, entertaining and reinforce the internalization and sustainability
of the skills of empathy taught in the program.
